    Re: 64 search

    Randy,
I do not know if this means anything, but the Corvette Birthday book shows cars built all throughout October of 63 (64 models). It does show a labor strike at the plant in October 64 (65 models), so I am assuming you meant 65 model in 64 calendar year. The book shows the last day of production being September 16th (Wednesday), which did not resume until November 2nd (Monday). That would have been for 1965 model cars. So I would deduce there are NO October 1964 built cars from this resource material.

The Corvette black book agrees with the information stated above. In the 64 model year the last car built in September was # 101741 the last car built in October was # 104045. In 65 the last car built in September was # 101425 the next car listed is in November but no date is given.

If Randy is really referring to the 1965 model year (early cars, produced in fall of 1964), Bob has correctly quoted VIN 01425 for September start of strike. I don't know what date the birthday books show, but I can provide a bit of info on this car. It was in Reggie Jackson's collection, then it ended up at T.Michaelis, where a guy from western Canada bought it. It's a red/red FI convertible. I saw it when it was undergoing a frame off at a local Calgary Corvette shop; took pics of both frame VIN stampings. At that point, the body had already been sent out for paint, so I didn't get a second look at the trim tag, but I took the following notes earlier, when it first arrived. Trim tag: B27, S683, 407BA, 900UU. I wish I'd paid closer attention to the trim stampings, as I think the S-body might have been S383 [S683 seems high]. It's probably now owned by someone in the British Columbia interior.

As to the resumption of St.Louis production, my car, 60 or so VINs later [probably off the line the first day after assembly resumed] has a trim tag D6, S280 900XX, STD.

Two more examples of the rough approximation used in the birthday books.

Randy, you said that you were looking for an October build date, why is that so imprtant? Just curious.

How about Oct. in another year, such as when hit your first birthday?
