    70 front grill painting again

I reviewed the archives and have painted the center grill so i know I have the right paint. Used original dupont formula as posted in archives.

Question is regarding the chrome not painted.

Should the front edge of the chrome along the very bottom (chrome area where studs are on the back) and up the side get painted or just the top side. This would be the short vertical surface as you look straight at the grills. Exactly what chrome surface on the egg crate section is showing. Mine were original and it looks like just the chrome vertical and horizontal edges were fully exposed. Is that correct or should any of the flat surfaces inside the squares of the grill have chrome exposed as well? There appears to be light over-spray on all inside surfaces of the squares.

I hope I am explaining this correctly. Does someone have good close up pictures?

    Thanks,

    Bill

Bill, the vert. and horiz. bars have chrome on both sides and the front of course, except for very top of grille that is gray. The bottom flat behind leading edge chrome is also gray, and black painted around the park lamp. Factory used a mask and overspray may vary. Richard Fortier did a set for me and used a mask that passed my inspection. May be someone will post a pic. if not, let me know I may help. Steve

        Thanks Terry and Steven,

It is kind of hard to to determine since there is so much over-spray on the flat part that is to be exposed.

I am going to try and find a piece of foam to press the grills in to as I paint them. It was suggested by another member and the results he achieved looked about perfect.

check this link to that other forum. Lot of pics of the grills. I posted the original formula from Terry years ago. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...n-signals.html

Make sure you double check mine -- I miss the ball from time to time. Joe's is probably twice as thick as mine.

                  Thanks Dennis,

Just as I suspected. Very little of the chrome is showing on the flat surfaces that make up the step portion of each square behind the vertical and horizontal edges.
