1955 Chevy biscayne Concept car

I'm sitting home and got a call from some guy named Joe Bortz asking me about the 55 Corvette shielding I've sold for over 25 years .
He tells me he has a 55 Chevy that he needs one for his car, I answered by saying are you kidding me Chevy car never used 55 Corvette shielding and his replie was O yes they did . Well after a while I said what the hell kind of car have you because it was for fiberglass bodies not steel. It's a different kind of car and asked me to go to Google and look up 55 Chevy Biscayne ,while were talking ,well what a ugly green thing it was I said and what is it. We talked for some time and I said I had a 55 Corvette when he started telling me about when his father just bought a RED 55 Corvette and he was 13 years old and his father told him to take it around the block and how he tore the right side of the body off hitting a parked car .
So this is the car he has that he saved from a junk yard years ago that had a 265 V8 in it that also had 55 Corvette shielding and his car is missing it. Also talked about his green Buick Wildcat and the bubble top arrangement on it .
Well! I just thought I would pass on our talk as we still e-mail each other talking cars.
Any one seen this car.?

Roy, Joe Bortz is dedicated to collecting and restoring old prototype and show cars, especially the GM variety from the 50's. Has and had some great ones. Google him and you will see some of his concept cars.

About 10 years ago Chicagos Museum of Science and Industry had a temporary display of 50's and 60's concept cars made up mostly of his collection. Very interesting collection.

Weren't the first Chevrolet fiberglass prototypes sedans? I seem to recall reading about one that was accidently rolled during track testing and held together quite well.

it was either a 51 0r 52 fiberglass chevy convertible, not the 53-4 body style.mike

I had corresponded with a fella in WI last year about this car. I believe his name is Mel Francis. He rebuilt this car after Bortz got it from the famous Warhoops Junk yard around Detroit. If I'm correct, he has pulled several of the Motrama cars from Warhoops.

Here is a pic of it while being rebuilt.
