Used Original Parts Donations to Judging Archives??

I have all of the original left and right side door/vent window fwd channels, side glass wipes, rear/upper channels, lower channel L-brackets from our 63 I just worked on. They are free to the organization. I want no compensation. I'll even pay shipping to whoever/wherever. I just can't toss 'em.

Do we have some kind of archive, or someone who wants these for judging examples?

That is a great idea Rich! If there is no central location available possibly the Team Leaders could maintain them for updated Judging Manuals. Descriptions and pictures of the verified parts could be included in new editions. 'Don't know how would handle change of Team Leaders or the amount/cost of shipping and space required. I would gladly pay more annual dues to maintain such a resource. Hopefully a significant amount of parts will be available for research.

I'm just pulling an idea out of my butt, but maybe storing that kind of "stuff" at the Museum would solve the change of TL issue. That would potentially also allow interested parties to "view" these items. I don't know if the folks in Bowling Green would be interested, but you might contact Betty at Corvettemuseum dot com.

Gotta love that first photo that shows "A Bailey Product" - that's why those channels were known as "Baileys" in the trade for many years; Bailey made them for LOTS of manufacturers.

Interesting ideas. I too have a lot of my original door and trim hardware that I replaced back in the 70's, as well as extra NOS pieces that I accumilated when prices were minimal and I bought extra to get like a good set of something. Typically, the NOS replacements were like "seconds" and you had to buy four when you only needed two to make a good set. When buying by mail order, the shipping costs alone sometime equaled the price of the items so it was worth it rather than play the return game. Ah, the good old days.

Terry, That's a great idea. What better place than a museum! I'll do that for starters. I'd imagine it may be tricky to keep track of the items and add some work load but it may be worth it.

Steve, I'll send the idea along to a few of the Team Leaders and see if they have interest too.

There are many C1 original items I wish I could observe. It'd be cool to have a common place for original parts from these cars, to see the differences between service replacements and factory supplied items, etc.

It would also be neat to see the changes in factory parts over the model year. Seeing the parts all in one place would be a real plus. It would take a lot of work to catalog everything and ultimately a huge amount of space to store it. HMMMM!

A good idea but who would store and display them .My idea would be to have a pic. Book showing original parts detail along with any year JM that everyone could buy through NCRS . As a new edition of the JM comes out also a new pic. Book edition is added.That way everyone no mater where they live can have one along with the JM.
As we all say a pic. Is worth a million words / we use the JM to describe a part so why not add a (separate) pic. book showing the part. That's what I'm trying to add to the 55 Corvette JM.

Would anyone pay a little more for a pic. book like that combined to go along with their JM

Roy, I was thinking of the book/photo idea too. What's great here on the TDB now is we have the photos online, but we have to search for posts then hope there's a photo. If the parts were in a central location, like the museum for example, they could catalog them and add either to their website or even create a publication.

However, we really need to understand the scope of this venture.......every part from 1953 to ???. That would fill a few shelves!

A few warehouses and then some. The ideal situation would be to photograph the parts and put the pictures on-line or have them accessible on their computer system -- but how many pictures and how much electronic storage space? The mind boggles.
