Re: Jack hold down spring on eBay

I can tell you for a fact the owner had no help in the bidding (driving up the price) on that item or any other items he has ever sold........yes I know it happens with some other sellers, Im in this for the long haul and run a clean operation, I have seen some strange prices in the last 8 years of selling on ebay, when it comes right down to it most used parts have very little real value, the same can be said for coins, stamps, baseball cards etc, its all in what gets you excited at the moment..............Thanks John Meissinger

This is just a thought, if the buyers / restorers would slow down and do some research they would find alot of the High Dollar parts are used on many other GM cars, the correct bigblock oil cap is found on some 230/250 6cyl chevrolets, detroit diesels, and the 305 GMC V6 engines and others, the black wire straps were used on 1967-1972 Chevrolet c-10 c-15 pickups, oldsmoblies up to around 1969 used the same clear wire straps as the 1963 - 1965 corvette....................the list goes on and on, if you ever want to know about a part interchange ask I have no secrets..........Im done Thanks John Meissinger

        John,

As I had mentioned earlier, you have a good reputation which is one reason people are willing to pay so much for your parts. If people thought you played games you would be lucky to sell much of anything. No one can blame you for taking several hundred dollars for a part that is available for $20.00 and you start out at $9.99 with no reserve, as you do most of your parts. Some of the prices are ridiculous, but as I said before, more power to you.

I'm another proud buyer of many correct parts from John, his name brings the assurance of quality correct parts. This is why his auctions command some high prices, I just wish that was me selling that spring !!!! Good for you John and thanks for taking the time and putting up some of those quality parts.

I would like to be clear about one thing- I did not start this post to criticize the seller in any way. I just wanted to point out the interesting notion of how much some are willing to spend on a given item and the spread between prices on the same item. I am happy for John that he has a good reputation and can get good prices for his items. He, and others, have earned those prices by gaining the trust of the customers who are confident in buying expensive items. As many of you know I buy and sell in the Driveline and at Bloomington and Carlisle and feel that the most expensive thing I have to offer is my good reputation and having established that can offer my customers the same confidence even if the prices on my items might be higher than than the guy down the aisle.

Did the service version of this spring differ from the OEM part? I found a number 3963108 in my database, but don't know the application years.

Thanks John. Just as many others here, I also have bought from John and as they mentioned you get more than "just a part". You know if there is ANY question with it John stands behind it. I have called John and asked his opinion on several items when I was restoring the 67. And each time came away with an honest answer even if it meant the part he had wasn't the one I needed. I say more power to you John!!
