Can anyone make sense of the dates on 65-66 K-H knock-off wheel
. I have restored probably 10 sets over the years, with 6 sets in the last year and am seeing the dates all over the board. I had thought for years the alpha was the month, then I checked archives and not much regarding dates, but a thread that indicated the alpha was a shift or line ID. So, I re-checked my 20 or so wheels in stock and records of sold wheels and show/have every alpha character A-J. So, I really do not think the alpha is shift-I have come back to the alpha is the month. Some wheels do not have, but others have a single number after the alpha (which I think is a mold, finisher, or inspector or some sort of ID) that I have seen 1-8 appear (too high of a number to be shift, which is what I had thought for years), then 2 digits that appear to be day, then 2 digits indicating year (some wheels only have one digit for year i.e. 5 and some wheels do not have any year indication). Some wheels have spaces between Alpha, day & year, some do not. Some stamps appear to have been stuck in a holder (have one that alpha is up-right and all the number w/o spacing are upside down), but others were not.
I believe the 64-66 dates were different from the 67 as indicated in the current Restorer-they are not in the same sequence or even close. I have not seen any 64 wheels with readable dates to verify the "ink" dates-would really appreciate any pictures of 64 wheels with original dates to see if similar to the 65-66 wheels. I have had real original wheels with no dates, which I assume are 64 wheels that the ink has worn/washed away.
I am seeking any and all input to try and figure out a pattern or sense of the characters which we recognize as a date on these wheels. Thanks for your help.
