Roy, "vettegal.com" has a Delco vibrator with red lettering. The photo looks exactly like mine. I think it is used. $39.95. She also has brand new OZ4. Can't tell if its Delco, but it looks like it may be. $29.95. OZ4s crap out more often than vibrators do. Suggest you go this route. -Dan-

The Delco radio book for '53-55 6V Wonderbar radios lists the vibrator in two ways: (1) 7239124, Production Part No., and (2) 8542, Service Part No.

For the '55 12V Wonderbar the equivalent listing is 7265528 with the following footnote: "Number stamped on part but not same as Service Part No."

I am no expert on electronics but I will pass along my observations and what I was told by a vintage radio restorer.

Observation - NOS 6 and 12 vibrators are readiliy available. Check websites for vintage radio parts and repairs. I see them frequently at swap meets too. Not very rare at all. Possibly because no one wants them (because they are junk?).

I was told by a full time vintage radio restorer - You can go through a whole box of NOS vibrators and only about half will work. No one uses them in repairing the old radios because they will likely fail during warranty and the repair guys don't want the constant hasstle of dealing with irate customers.

I believe it when you say half of them are bad. Going solid state certinally is a way of making the radio play. But for judging, how to you get around the buzzing? I would think judges would want to hear them buzz. -Dan-

I don't disagree about the judging and buzzing. I'm just trying to pass on a cautionary note that there may be a 50-50 chance that any vibrator bought may not work...especially a used one.

10-4 Troy. Additionally, for the ones that do work, how long will they work? That is another issue. This sounds like a difficult problem for older vehicles. And it applies not just to Vettes, but to all cars 1957 and older. On a broader scale, I wonder how other restorers handle this problem.
