convertible header panel
Was the header panel always black or did it come painted to match interior? I have a 74 with dark blue interior and having new black top replaced. Should the panel be painted blue or leave black.? Thankyou

My header is original and it is black (top is black). I believe that they were always black. -

They were always black regardless of top color or interior color. The interior of the convertible top and the bows were always black regardless of top exterior color or the car's interior color. So, "color-keying" the header panel to interior color would not have made much sense.
In the "old days", black was the most popular interior color. It was my favorite interior color then and, even, to this day.
So, if one ordered black interior, one got a completely "color-coordinated" interior. If one ordered any other color, they didn't get that.In Appreciation of John HinckleyComment
