I seem to remember a cast iron pulley on the 1970 ZR1 formerly owned by Sal Carbone. That is a really original car. I may be in a position to check that one toward the end of the week.

I think that Sal told me that his car did not have the cast iron pulley. Has Sal owned more than 1 ZR-1? I only recall the gray one.

ok that explains it. someone there asked me if i saw the 70 zr-1 with 300 miles on it. i went looking for it right away. i found it on the lift and started looking at it. i should have known by the floor boards it was a 72. guess i was stuck on the zr-1 part of it.

No as far as I know he has owned only the gray one. He sold it a couple of years ago, and it is now closer to me than it was when Sal owned it.

            Joe-

Based on the (semi-obscure) photo's provided, the pulley looks like the typical stamped-steel unit to me...

PS - Sending my '66 BB trailing arms to Ken Carter for rebuild, also may throw in 1st design calipers for sleeving too. Thanks for the recommendation...

Did anyone observe or photograph the crankshaft pulley on this car? I'm still on a "one-man-crusade" to see if any 1970-72 ZR-1's used the cast iron crank pulley. I realize that all reported-on to date didn't have them, but I'm always curious when a another car shows up.

Joe I took this photo from the only 71 ZR1 convert a couple of years ago. belongs to a client of mine.

Thanks. Yes, that's the 'ol 3858533, same as used for non ZR-1 LT-1's (and many other applications, too).

This is the best I have of the crankshaft pulley. I'll get more at National.

                      Also the exhaust tip labels.

That's a good enough picture of the crank pulley. It's clearly the stamped steel pulley and not the cast iron.

Well Joe here is the cast iron pulley on the last ZR1 #26476. Photo taken before its restoration. I am told that 1972 ZR1 #14454, a 16K car, also has a cast iron pulley, as does 1971 ZR1 #11560.

Damn the photo is too big. Screw it. Technology sucks. Y'all can live without a picture I'm going for surgery. Thanks to Gerry Quinn and John Hinckley I got the photos re-sized.

Excellent. Thanks. It looks like at some point in 1971 St. Louis finally figured out they were supposed to be installing a different pulley on ZR-1 engines but, apparently, they did not do it consistently thereafter if the 1972 ZR-1 that's the subject of this thread is originally a ZR-1.

I am as confident as I can be that the car that started this thread began life as a ZR1. Over time I'll work at getting better pictures of the crankshaft pulley on it, and I'll dig up more history on the other ZR1s I mentioned. All this information, and the pictures in the above post came from other trusted sources. I'll dig a little deeper, it just takes time.
