    Question on transmission removal

I would like to remove the engine from the frame. ( Body is off ) The question I have is.
Can I leave the 4 speed transmission on the bell housing to save time on the re install ? I noticed two dowel pins to align bell housing.
I want to take the engine in to a shop for a possible rebuild. rings valve job. Any help appreciated.

Wayne, yes, the bellhousing can be left in place.

You may want to seperate them so you can remove and inspect the clutch fork.

Wayne, I think that the engine re-install with the transmisson in place will make the alignment for a little more work , as you have the frame off, I would say remove as a assy. and re-install as a assy.

        Re: Question on transmission removal

think I posed my question wrong. I need to take the engine into a shop to have a look at it. I believe they require the transmission removed.
Can I do this by just removing the bell housing with the transmission attached ? When I get the engine back I was thinking I could reattach
the bell housing and place unit back in frame.
        Thanks

Wayne, I say remove the engine, bell housing, transmisson as a assy. and re-install them as a assy. makes it a whole lot easier to just drop the assy onto the frame.once removed seperate the bell housing from engine.

            Re: Question on transmission removal

Wayne, as said earlier, remove engine/transmission as an assy fro the frame. Separate the transmission from the bellhousing, (only 4 bolts) and the bellhousing from the engine. remove the clutch from the flywheel and inspect. Resurface flywheel????
            Get your engine work completed.
Check the transmission for leaks on the front face; gear idler shaft sometimes leaks at the case opening. Replace seals at shift levers and output shaft.
Reassemble clutch. Install bellhousing. Install transmission. Now you have a complete assembly to easily drop back onto the frame.

            Have fun.
