    Re: What's shaking!!

Clem, why a clutch or pressure plate? Ive done many in my years, never seen one that would cause a vibration unless it was from the get go. however I have seen a rubber ring on the harmonic balancer slip before and cause a rpm sensitive vibartion.

Not trying to down play the problem could not be a clutch problem, but if the problem was only as of recent it seems maybe something that may have been tampered with such as a driveline issue or the engine Imbalance.

he posted he had it for 5 years and the whole time it has had a vibration problem. unless some one installed pistons or rods way out of the weight range and did not re balance the rotating assy i would suspect the pressure plate. this can be checked by pulling the trans, bell housing and the clutch assy and run the engine. if you still have a vibration it is internal and if it goes away it was the pressure plate. i have found aftermarket pressure plates out a balance enough that metal had to be welded to them

I had a 79 in which there was a vibration when I purchased the car. I assumed the vibration was a u joint. After some trials we found the vibration was present when stoped and just reving the engine. My mechanic located the vibration in the water pump. I think it was the wrong pump so replaced with correct pump and no more vibration. tom

try removing the fan belt and rev the engine while in natural and see what happens. this would eliminate the water pump and fan blade if the vibration does not go away
