Guys, I am assembling the chassis of my '56. I am ready to install the emergency brake cables to the brake drums. Both of the cables work and I feel sure they will clean up and look good once the grease is off of them. The problem I have is that there are two round rubber pieces that go around the cable housing that keep it from rubbing the frame and leaf springs. These are split and deteriorated. To my knowledge there are no reproductions. There are reproductions of the boot that covers the cable where it goes into the cable housing. I am wondering if some of you have had the same problem and what you did to remedy this. I know that Corvette Central has just correctly reproduced the rear emergency brake cables for C-1's but I would rather use my originals especially since they still work. I hope the pictures will show what I am talking about. Thanks in advance! Brooks Glover (2141)

Re: E-Brake Cable Rubber Parts
Because you cant slip new ones over the cable ends I would find the correct rubber diameter and slit it open long wise then use something like Gorilla glue to glue the cut back to gather . What do you think ?
Also if you need new drum cable seals (hard to find) make new ones to help keep water out.

Re: E-Brake Cable Rubber Parts
Roy, I really appreciate your reply to my post. When I looked on the forum this morning I thought my post was going to drift into the twilight zone (no responses). I have been thinking of trying something along the lines of what you suggested. You are right that a piece of rubber tubing will not slide on to the cable housing as both ends are a lot larger. I have not had experience with gorilla glue but I have seen it several places. I will have to see what kind or rubber tubing I can find that looks about the same size as what is on my E-brake cables. BTW, where do the gaskets you pictured go? Are they between the axle housing and the brake backing plate? If so, I guess I have the wrong gaskets on my chassis. I may just have to live with that. Thanks again! Brooks Glover (2141)- Top

Re: E-Brake Cable Rubber Parts
The gasket are where you bolt the cable to the backing plate (two bolts) if your missing them just make them out of jute , what carpet people used as pading. All early chevy and 53 to 62 used them , not a big deal to make but should be used- Top

Re: E-Brake Cable Rubber Parts
Roy, the cables on my '56 are held in place by some spring steel fingers that are part of the cable for lack of a better way to say it. There are no bolts here. There are no holes as such in the backing plate either. Were the '55's made the way you are describing? Thanks! Brooks Glover (2141)- Top
