    65 Firewall Wiring Harness Routing

I have gotten a few deducts at an NCRS 2008 regional and at 2009 Bloomington for the firewall routing of the wiring harness, windshield washer hose, hood lock cable, temp switch wire, and coil wires. I have a 65 L79. It has 5 clips and 5 straps being used on the firewall.

I have a poor copy of the 65 AIM which shows the engine wiring harness on UPC 12, sheet A9. I have also looked in the archives and found only a couple of pics of the routing on the driver's side only.

Can anyone post a few pics showing the routing of these things including the clips and straps across the firewall from driver's side to the passenger side of the car? I would also like to know if the coil wires are partially wrapped with electrical tape before going into the wiring harness.

    Thanks for any help.

So is it correct that the hood release cable is the only thing in the clip at the centerline of the car directly above the wiper motor? Why I ask is because here isa picture of a 65 L79 equipped car and the hoodrelease cable is not in the clip at the centerline of the car? I have a 65 L79 and also like to know what's right. I'll try to post some picture of my car as a comparison this weekend.

Yes - that's the only reason that clip is there. The one in the photo is incorrect.

          John -

Does the routing of the hood cable, wiring harness, and w/s washer hose through the clips and straps look correct as shown in the 3 photos posted by John Lavine in the first response to my post?

To get the full picture of firewall clips on 1965 cars, you have to refer to AIM sheets UPC 11-13, Sht B5; UPC 12, Sht C3, A9, A11; and options UPC M20, Sht 4; C60, Sht E2. There may be others.

Then you have to contend with A-body versus S body attachment methods, and taping locations for K66.

Thanks Wayne. I will do some reviewing of the AIM sheets you mentioned. The think the only options that I have which I need to check in the AIM is J50, M20, and Z01. I do not have options K66, U69, or C60.

                Michael,

I think the pics by John Lavine showing harness routing are a good guide to use. The metal clips hold the hood cable only in three places.

My take is five plastic ties, one by starter down harness, each side of the wiper motor, behind the master cylinder for the hood cable and washer pump hose (the wire harness has it's own clip with plastic around here) and another located approx to the left of this that holds harness and other wires but not tied to the hood cable, (seems like this plastic tie is used to hold everything together and out of the way of the shield).

Like Wayne said, study the AIM on different pages to get the idea and look at other cars but keep in mind hands have been here over the last forty years. Seems like cars are different, I remember going through this with my 67 double checking against other cars and some were different.

Thanks everyone for the help. I think between the new AIM pages to look at, the posted pics, and the responses, I got it figured out on the routing of the wiring harness, etc.
