While installing my new speedometer cable today I came accross a loose wire with a female spade connector on it located sort of behind the chrome distributor shield and the bulkhead. The color of the wire is black but I don't see where it connects. According to my wiring diagram there is a black wire going to a horn relay/key buzzer but I'm not real sure where that is located either. Since it's a black wire, wouldn't that indicate it's a ground wire?

Re: 69 loose wire
There is a ground on the wiper motor housing. The male connector is a short spade retained with one of the housing screws. The wire is black and the connector should have a large black plastic cover and if I recall correctly may have a brown wire from the alarm switch if equiped.
See this thread for some firewall pictures.

Re: 69 loose wire
Hi Jim,
Here are a couple of pictures of the connection I believe Michael has mentioned in his post. Good Luck!

Thanks Alan for the pic's, you and Michael were right on, that wire in the pic looks exactly what I found laying underneath the wiper motor area. I found it while replacing the speedo cable, which turned out to ne a not so fun job. I'll take a look for that connection today.- Top

Re: 69 loose wire
Hi Jim,
Replacing the speedo and tach cables is really easy if you have a 4 year old that you can convince to get under the dash. Their arm and hand are just the right size. Plus, they usually will work for a baggy with some gummi bears in it.

Re: 69 loose wire
You're right about that Alan. Joe had said in an earlier post regarding the speedo cable, that taking the dash out would sound like a good idea. Well he was right, but I thought, I can do this and I did, however it took me the better part of the day and my hands look like they went though a meat grinder. Just about as much fun as replacing the positive batter y cable.
