    69 steering wheel color

My 69 is all black, black interior, tuxedo black exterior. I noticed on ebay that someone is selling a dark red steering wheel that appears to be an original. I'm thinking that something like that on an all black car might spice up the interior a little. Has anyone seen someone do something like that and if so, how did it look?

    Jim,

According to the JM in '69 all the steering wheels were black. This sounds like a reproduction but if you like it, do it. I would not sell your other steering wheel, however.

The "rubber" component of ALL 1969-75 Corvette steering wheels was black. No exceptions. This same wheel was also used on some Buick Skylarks of the period. However, the Buicks also used other identical colored wheels depending on interior color. The colored wheels seen being offered as Corvette wheels are actually Buick wheels. This has been going on for years.

        Jim:

As Terry suggests, a red steering wheel is not correct for the car; however, it's your car and your choice.

He is absolutely right about holding on to the original wheel.

        Have fun !

Thanks guys, that makes the choice a little easier. I was originally thinking that if it were an actual 69 wheel in a dark red, that maybe it might be a nice way to spice up the interior a little however I'm not going to put a Buick wheel on the vette. jim
