    I just looked at a local '66 for sale in the 700 VIN range and it has '65 inner fenders. This is a St. Louis car and a 300 horse car. It also appears to be a no hit car.

      Thanks for the additional info/validation. I wonder if the new JM will have any reference to these early cars.

        Does anyone remember WHY the right inner fender skirt changed early in the 66 model run? Also, why the hood support was moved from the right side to the left for big blocks.
        We talked about this a while back.

          My guess would be the proliferation of AC. The pad was moved down to give more room for hoses, and the rear corner squared off for more room there too.

            Yes, that's correct. Big block with AC made it necessary to reshape the skirt for clearance. Same for the relocation of the hood support.
