Page 135 of the JG states the adjusting sleeves and clamps are black, what about bolts, black also or natural?

Re: 1967 steering linkage?
The bolts are black phosphate. Now which bolts do you have? They used 2 different length bolts one was 1-1/4" and he other was 1-3/8" If you have the shorter bolt you need to use a lock nut with no lock washer. If you have the longer bolt you will use a regular hex nut with a split ring lock washer. (lock nut is silver cad, regular nut and lock washer are black phosphate). All tubes had a natural/forged finish while the clamps were natural bare steel. Then they may or may not have had a coat of black paint shot on them before the assembly was installed onto the chassie.

Re: 1967 steering linkage?
It is my understanding that the steering linkage came to the assy line as a painted assembly from wheel to wheel, including the idler arm. The tie rod ends had a mask on the tapered surfaces. Therefore everything was pretty much painted black. The Zerks were installed on the assembly line. Tie rod castle nuts were not painted nor the cotter pins. Toe adjusting bolts/nuts were painted.
The typical 67 Assembly manual is missing the page that calls out this assembly. It is page UPC9 A2 shown below. It also shows the angle of the clamps and bolt direction.Attached Files- Top

Re: 1967 steering linkage?
I had to reduce it to get it onto this site. The system rejected my original which I think I got off of here sometime back. At any rate try saving it as a photo and then print it. That might work....- Top

Re: 1967 steering linkage?
That sheet is from the '66 Assembly Manual (note the 3818700 number at the top of the page - the '67 manual was 3891772), but the info is all the same.- Top

John Hinckley, I believe you are the one who provided this page to me originally, along with the paint scheme info.....
Thanks

Yup - I've never found that 9-A2 page in any '67 Assembly Manual either. Must have been missing from the manual they copied..and copied...and copied.- Top

Re: 1967 steering linkage?
Rekindling an old thread......
Just so you know, my UPC9 A1 & A2 are missing too. Thanks for supplying the page from the '66 AIM guys.
Was there ever a page showing the connection of the Pitman arm to the relay rod with the big nut and lockwasher? It isn't shown anywhere.
Here's a bigger 1966 AIM UPC9 A2....
