I am still scraping old paint and removing rust on bolts!

Your car looks great! Just my two cents but you would save yourself a lot of work in the long run if you painted the body before you dropped it on the chassis, like it was done at the factory.

I had my '67 painted four years ago with the body on the chassis. While the painter did an excellent job of painting it, there was paint over spray everywhere...in the wheel wells, on the engine and wiring harness, front suspension... just everywhere.

It took me a year to remove all of the over spray and/or repaint those items. It would be so easy for you to paint it now and then drop the body after the paint job. Don't say I didn't warn ya!

4 suggestions on paint...

Definitely paint the body before it is dropped on the frame!!! As stated, clean up of the frame is a major job if you paint the body on the frame and there is no good reason to do it that way.

Paint the door jambs and edges, hood opening, etc. before assembly.

Paint the body with components (doors, buckets, rear pan, etc.) loosely assembled. So they are in their final location... not on a table etc next to the body. This is especially important if you are painting a metallic color.
This procedure eliminates any color variable caused by gun mixing, pressure varible etc.which becomes VERY evident under flourescent lighting.

Perform all final blackout, and buffing etc of the new paint before body drop.

body drop sounds bad, we like to refer to it as a body relocation, i agree with the posters, it is best to do all the paint/assembly you can before the [drop], at a bare minimum fire wall paint, wipers, heater, windshield, wire harness, it's easy to get in a hurry, but time spent now, will save you a bunch later

i will masked the frame ,engine etc... if you take the time to do it good
overspray will not be an issue

the main reason i want the body on the frame to have it ridgid
and to install the doors for the final coat of paint
+ its better for the transport

Just my .02$ worth,if I had it to do over again
I would install carb etc,AND RUN THAT
ENGINE.Because it's much easier to make any & all
necessary repairs/adjustments when the BODY is not an issue.
