    C3 Ignition rack kit question(s)

I have a tilt column #7818360 (not for sale) and I would like to find out how many pieces of the rack kit # 7844651 will fit this column. I would also like to know if the column is a replacement for 1970 Corvette or something newer.

I tried my Chevrolet dealer, and while he stocks this rack kit (to my surprise), they could tell me nothing about the contents or their application (also to the surprise of the parts manager and myself). He could also tell me nothing about the column #7818360.

I have the following information from Jim Shae:

I could have sent this privately to Joe Lucia, but I felt (as Jim does) there might be enough interest to justify posting it to the board.

I can find no record, whatsoever, of a steering column, or any other part for that matter, of GM #7818360. Are you sure the part number is not GM #7818860? If it is the latter, that column is the 1975 PRODUCTION and SERVICE tilt/tele column. It became SERVICE for 69-74 when the original columns for those model years were discontinued. The original 1970-73 tilt/tele column was GM #7810075. Just how the 7810075 and 7818860 differ, I do not know. However, I would expect that the turn signal lever and tilt lever are among the differences and, perhaps, the only differences.

As far as rack kit GM #7844651 goes, as far as I can tell, it is applicable to only 1977-82 models. I don't think that any of the parts contained in it are the same as those used for a pre-77 application. Whether, or not, any of the parts would be USABLE for pre-77 application, I do not know. I would expect not, though.
    In Appreciation of John Hinckley

      Thanks for the come-back Joe.

The numbers on the column box are faint, so it is possible I misread them -- I'll check again over the next several days. FWIW: There are no levers on the unit. Those had to be purchased separately.
