Looking for help to install new door glass in my L-72 coupe. I took the door glass and vent window assm. out to change all. I can get the vent assm back in, but I am stuck with how to get the new door glass back in it's tracks? Any help will REALLY be appreciated!

Glass to track is an intentional interference fit, to retain the glass in the track in a specific position. You need the correct thickness of retaining rubber and SLOW down, take your time and gently by PERSISTENTLY press the glass into the track. Use of correct tools, like rubber headed mallet, and a good/solid backstop help...

If you mean the vertical tracks 1 loosen the vent ass.2 Push down and pull bottom of vent ass. to the rear of door. 3 Insert window ass. into rear chanel. 4 work vent ass.up and forward on the bottom. Reattach vent ass. and windiw regulator. You can get tape from real glass shops to hold glass in tracks

I just redid everything inside both doors of my 67 coupe a couple weeks ago including cleaning locks and catches. This is not much fun for sure but worth the time.
Here is another way.
1. Put the vent frame in and leave loose. Remove the long screw at the bottom first.
2. Put the window crank mechanism in loose but with stem sticking thru the door hole for it. I could not get this in after the vent frame was in, so figured it must go in at this point.
3. Leave the bottom rear track loose inside the door (thus, don't put the two black phosphate philips screws in the end of the door that hold that track in place)
4. Now, for the side glass, you might want a "handle"on the glass...run a piece of duct tape on the inside of the glass sticking at least 3 inches to the glass, then up about 6 inches above the glass and then down the outside of the glass another 3 inches at least. Press the glued sides together and now you have a handle. Maybe you want two handles...front of glass and rear or just center.
5. Put the side glass inside the door and drop to the bottom of the door
6. Position the sideglass in the bottom part of the vent frame
7. Twist the bottom of the rear channel so the opening faces about 45 degrees to the outside of the door.
8. Catch the rear of the side glass in the rear channel (at the bottom)
9. Pull the glass up the channels with the "handles"
10. The rear bottom channel can be twisted in place now.
11. Tighten all, lubricate channels
12. Put the long screw in at the bottom of the vent frame run last.

Hope I did not miss anything, after all it has been over two weeks!

Thanks to all who took the time to reply concerning installing side glass in my '66 coupe............your combined comments were put to good use, and I got the job done yesterday.

The best way I found was to remove the rear vertical track, leave the felt hanging inside the door, and then install the glass and position it forward into the vent window vertical track and roll the window up.

Then re-install the rear track thru the access hole in the door and bolt it in. Thanks again..........

I just finished installing the rebuild vent windows/hardware and new wiskers in my 66 coupe. After reading all the steps these guys posted it worked wonders. I cannot thank all of you for the great ideas and steps to install all the items in correct order. Thanks again Dan Termeer (2325)
