    67 3x2 Accelerator Rod Help

I'm looking for help in determining if my 67 427 3x2 accelerator rod is original or a reproduction. It has the "MW" stamped on it. It also has no marks at any of the bends. The spring clip has one large weld. It appears to have never been gold cadmium dichromate plated. It appears to be zinc silver plated. If original I'd like to get it replated correctly. Attached are some images.

The "MW" logo looks identical to the "MW" logo on my original 1966 Corvette w/327 accelerator rod. I do not believe that the reproductions have this logo.

The original swivel (GM # 3758592) measures 1.08" overall. The 0.43" dia. part of it measures 0.52" long and the 0.25" dia. part of it measues 0.56" long. There is also a very thin groove located just below the rim of the 0.43" dia. flat section. There is also a tiny dimple in the center of the 0.43" dia. flat section.

      Dereck,
What is the direcional orientation of the spring retainer relative to the bend?
Could you provide a pic of the complete assembly?
      Thank you

Here's what's on my reproduction (purchased early '90's; can't recall vendor). The threaded section is 1_7/8", which appears to be longer than yours. The clip is welded (soldered ?) on in the same orientation; ie. points vertically down when installed, but there's some weld/solder that oozes out each side (clip dimples might have been added for cosmetics). There are 4 crimp marks along the length (from bending tool). No MW stamping. Definitely not gold-cad plating. Clip is 1.75" from the hole center to the center of the next forward bend.

Repeat -- mine is definitely repro.

It appears identical in every way to my original 67

              Bob,
Thanks for the feedback. Is yours zinc silver plated? I'm wondering if they plated these both zinc silver and gold dichromate.

It is showing its age but looks like zinc silver. I bought one in gold thinking it was correct. I guess I should have left it on the car. 19k miles.

If you want a couple of pics, I can send them

Thanks Bob and to all who responded. I think I'll leave the part as is with the zinc silver plated finish even though I've never seen a high quality restoration with an accelerator rod without gold dichromate plating. I have an early car and maybe the supplier made a change at some point.

                    Dereck:

Maybe the gold was over top of the zinc and just wore off with time. As mentioned, mine looks exactly like yours in color and I know it was original on my car.

I changed mine for the reason you said about the cars you have seen all being gold.

I thought that rod was supposed to be cad or zinc? I don't remember the gold color. I may be wrong though.....
