My rocker panel are out for reanodizing and will need to find some hardware when they return ,The J.M. calls out for the 2 outside screws to be different than the middle ones, the outside retainers are flat pan head black oxide screws self tapping and theres a reason for this, the fenders and qtr. panels have cut outs for nylon inserts in 72.The problem I have is these nylon inserts I am missing three of them, the repro.s are screws and nuts for all . my question is does anyone know if they maybe the nylon inserts the same on later years and maybe still avaliable from GM? or maybe some has used something that will work in its place.

Re: Rocker Panel Hardware- 72 coupe
Ed, Who did you use? Are you happy with the finish? How does the finish color and shine compare to the original?
See my recent post: https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...83142&uid=4352
King of Trim did my rockers and am happy with them, getting out the small chips from stones will not happen and deep scratchs also. but the finsih was good and was happy. as for the hardware there really is not much you can do, while my 72 has only been through chapter judging, there was not anything said with fastners, I just used what I could, I will say that the left and right lower recessed right hex head screws on the bottom of rocker at front fender are the screws from my dome lamps, I got the trick from someone on the TDB.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Rocker Panel Hardware- 72 coupe
Ed. Thanks.
Just a couple of questions:- The origunal finish on the panels is not a bright/shiny finish. King of Trim web site states, "...A phosphoric acid based chemical polishing (bright dip) is used to produce a highly reflective surface, which is protected with an anodizing film" Question: How close did they match the anodizing to original?
- How much did they charge?

Re: Rocker Panel Hardware- 72 coupe
Jerome, The finish is brighter than the factory finish, Mine were the originals and there was alot of road rash from over the years and there was one small sctrach that could not be removed all the way. for what they had to work with they really came out great. there not cheap to refinsh because of the labor hours of wet sanding out any scratchs and chips, and there buffed before refinishing, so don' t expect mircales with 30+ year old rockers, the cost I think depends on the amount of work, he told me about 500. and thats what he charged me.
You know the old saying there only original once. As for the rockers there as close as you'll get, when there going through the process of re-finishing. If you look close at the originals, you'll note that they appear to almost have lines running the lenght of the rockers, because they buff and sand out any imperfections that is removed. anyway you know where I am coming from.Last edited by Edward J.; December 21, 2010, 05:39 PM.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Jerome, one last detail, I don't think that the anodizing process is the exact as the 70's its more of a clear process, So the polsihed surface is what you see when done, only its a duriable finish.I believe that its almost like the chroming process that was done in the 50, 60s,70s. its not the same today.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top
