    A.I.R. Pump Rebuilder?

    Can anyone recommend a quality shop that can rebuild an original A.I.R. pump to OEM specs?

    Not sure if he deals in the same vintage as you need, but I'd give him a shout. I've personally dealt with him. Good guy.

    SMOG: complete original systems or pieces, will restore, rebuild your system. Bill Hodel, 330-832-0871, OH.

                    Unfortunately, I called Bill and sent him some photos of my OEM pump and he said that he could not handle anything for the C4 and newer Corvettes.

                      Peter------

                      That surprises me since the 86 pump is not that much different than C3 pumps, especially later C3's. However, I've got to trust that Bill knows what he can handle and not.

                      Other options:

                      1) If all the pump needs is a new front bearing, you can purchase one from Delco under Delco #Z99503 or from a GM dealer under GM #900529;

                      2) You can purchase a complete, high quality re-manufactured pump as manufactured by A-1 Cardone under their number 32427 for less than $100. You could use this as-is, OR;

                      3) You could "gut" the above pump and your pump, clean up your pump housing, and transfer the new "guts" to your pump;

                      4) You could have Bill Hodel do the above (3);

                      5) You could contact A-! Cardone about rebuilding your pump. I believe they do custom rebuilding of an owner supplied core. In fact, for some hard-to-find pumps, this is the only way they do it. Contact them through their web-site www.cardone.com

                        I was afraid of that. I think Joe L. gave you several great suggestions.

                            Does Bill also have an email address and / or website? Calling is OK, but sometimes, due to the 7+ time difference, for us Europeans it is easier to drop an email

                              Peter,

                              As always, Joe has great suggestions. I might add that if you decide to send your pump to a commercial rebuilder, you communicate that you do not want it permanently marked as rebuilt. I can tell you from personal experience many rebuilders will stamp the product they rebuild as such. Best of luck.
