    C2 Rear Valance Panels

    On the rear valance panel where it bolts to the lower section of the body using a single bolt, flat washer, & large nut on each side;

    there exists two holes on each side, are others finding the same?

    PS why!

        Lower hole measures 1/4 while upper (towards back more) is 19/64 for both of mine.

              Alan,

              I have restored MANY original midyears with 2 holes per side. I just finidhed a 65 coupe with them. I'd say I have seen it in 10-20% of the cars I have worked on.

                  My two '65's (one early, one very late) both have 2 holes on each side.

                      Might we ask ourselves could this anomoly be a St. Louis varible as it relates to A.O. Smith production. My September '65 A.O. Smith built body has 2 holes each side .

                        I must then add that my 65 is an April 1st A.O. Smith car with 1 hole on each side so it doesn't appear to be an S.L/A.O.Smith variable.

                          St. Louis vs. A.O. Smith shouldn't be a variable - there was only one supplier for quarter panels, and he supplied both plants with the same pre-drilled panel.

                            My Mar64 car is a SL body. Note the double holes are in the quarter and valance panel.

                            Now it has also been reported that the valance panel got removed from the normal production line, piled, color painted, and put on a car. (Think I recall)

                            So if such a separation occurred we should be seeing abnormal hole numbers on the rear quarter v valance panel, some with two in quarter & one on valance along with all possible combinations. Are we seeing this??

                            Thanks for everyone's effort so far - Alan

                              Alan, on my Dec 63 1964 Coupe I had 'bare spots' under the rear valance upper tabs indicating the valance was painted hanging on the car, I believe it was held by only 2 bolts since the other bolt locations on the valance had body color on them. The body only had one hole in it for the end bolts.
