65 Intake repair and shock absorber selection

I am looking for someone in the Santa Barbara area that would be able to repair some decay in my aluminum intake plate.

I am also looking for a cosmetically acceptable shock to install that will not cost potential points but may enhance the handling ability more than just the old stock shock.

    Martin,

I don't know of anyone in California who does aluminum repair. You might try Jerry MacNeish in Maryland. What is wrong with your intake? Can you post some pictures?

    Thanks,
    Joe

I'll try posting photos. There is wrought in the water jacket. The thermostat area is fine but it appears (over a twenty five year period of sitting) the aluminum corroded due to standing water. Except for about five pin holes it did not penetrate through. Given the cosmetic condition of the plate, the likelyhood of finding another, and the cost for such, I would like to see if mine can be repaired.

Any thoughts on shock absorbers (65 fuelie non F41).

Agree with Joe, regarding Jerry MacNeish for aluminum repair. He would be my first choice.

There is a guy who advertises in Hemmings (25 year advertiser) for aluminum intake repair and carb repair/restoration that is located in California. I believe that he has a good or very good reputation. Name is Chuck Smith. Located in Valley Center, CA 92082. Phone is 760-749-5755.

I do not have any personal experience with Chuck, but may be worth a call.

          Martin,

I have been looking at non F41 for my 68 BB-seems difficult to impossible to find an accurate replacement. Others have commented on KYB or Monroe as replacements that are "close" in appearance but not exact.

Anyone have a point of view on either? Anyone buy from MuskegonBrake?

As far as enhancing the ride quality, I have Bilstein Gas shocks on my 88 that really ride nice on a Z52 suspension which makes for a tight ride!
