55 vette for sale on ebay this week.

Thiss 55 was listed on ebay for sale this week, but has been removed
from the listing. I think it said it was # 072 or #074.

I inspected it today. Not original 3 speed as you might guess from the low VIN.

Is that the car that showed up at Jefferson, WI swap meet within the past year and a half? Owner's ego, asking price, and story were all over-inflated.

Troy, Wasn't that listed as being in Oregon? Must be with-in driving distance
of you. From the thumb nail pictures, I could see a lot wrong engine and trany wise.
I wish I would have copied them now. I wasn't expecting it to be pulled off ebay so soon.
On the other hand, it certainly has a lot going for it. Any idea why it was pulled off ebay?
How did it look when you inspected it? Was it #074 or 072?
Steering wheel/horn ring was wrong also.
By any chance did you save the thunb nail pic's on your computer?
I would like to have them for future referrence if you have them.

        Mike,
Were you referring to the 55 from Canada? That was a maroon paint job on it. I only saw what pics were posted on that one.

It's always nice to see another 55 no mater what condition it's in.

        Karl.

          Mike,
There was a maroon 55 that was at Carlisle for sale. That was from Ontario Canada.
There was a big bahoo about if he was just testing the water with
          his asking price.
The 55 in the pic I posted is in Oregon I believe.

          Karl.

Oregon plates and a Florida title.

Ebay made them take it off or ebay took it off for them because the ad title listed the car under several different years at once. Can't do that apparently.

I'll try to find time to provide you more news on this car tomorrow.

one listed on ebay 1074. rob and sue fearson from ottawa had car #1609. car 1074 looked like it might have a second hood pull on the passenger side? no gold Vs, but a 55style hood.

Re: 55 vette for sale on ebay this week.

I purchased this car yesterday and thus joined the ranks of 55 owners. So I'll need some help from you experts. I've had three 54's and started restoring them and serving as an OJ over 20 years ago. So I know about the common parts but am still learning and am not as up to speed on the 55 specifics as I am with the 54's.

The car (1074) bounced between various owners in the Portland, Oregon - Vancouver, WA area for many years. The guy I bought it from says he had it for two years but it had a fresh Florida title (I assume that was a sales tax dodge of some sort). He lives here in Washington in the summer and winters down there. Correct VIN tag is on the car. Frame has the fuel pump notch, hood is 55, generator is tach drive (cable missing), fuse panel is 55, radio is 12V, tach is 55. Dual hood pulls are a jury rigged deal and not indicative of an early 54.

265 V8 is from a truck and was rebuilt. Runs smooth. Three speed tranny is not correct but may be a 56-57. Such an early car should be a Powerglide. Rear end has a welded cover. (Funny thing is Noland reports two other early 3 speeds with welded covers. But I suppose we can assume they were all hot rodded and blew out the original rear ends.) Radiator is not correct. No fan shrouding. So the drive line is basically wrong all the way around. Most all the other parts are there though, including side curtains, soft top bows and accessory hard top.

                      Troy-

                      Congratulations!!!!

I don't know what you paid, but I think if you purchased the car for around the asking price, you should feel great about the deal. You will never find a cheaper 1955 Corvette. I think you purchased the 55 at the price of a 54. I was tempted to go look at the car. But after I factored in my wife divorcing me, the numbers just didn't work.

I'm happy with the price Russ. It will be a fun project. I'll see how much HP I can get out of the 265 without going too far overboard. I rebuilt one before and kept it very stock except for porting the heads. Don't want to do that again. Higher compression ratio for sure and more aggressive on the cam.

My wife doesn't seem to mind me buying cars as long as I keep the parts out of the house. You'd think with two guest rooms we could use one to store bumpers and such.

I still wish I would have down loaded the thumb nail pics of your "55."
The ad was pulled too quick.

Carlisle but didn't have enough information to get very far.
Thanks for the web site info. Maybe in the future It will be a help to me and to who ever else knows of it from your post.

I didn't save them either. I'll get a ton of photos when I move it to my storage. Then start collecting parts.
