Moderator - "vettes under cover" post question

Since one of the moderators decided this was "off topic" or something could you please explain the position?

My position: I am not the vendor nor affiliated with the vendor. I have nothing to "sell". The only benefit I would receive was the same discount that any other members would receive. All members still had to deal directly with the vendor to buy anything. The only person I know of that complained was Brian McHale and I'm not sure what his beef was. I would think that if NCRS membership could get discounts on corvette items most of the members would be all over it. I know I would.

If others would like to chime in I'd love to hear their position. Hopefully the NCRS Board "management" would also.

I'm not a moderator, but this group purchase thing and several other off topic posts have got little or nothing to do with 'technical discussion'. Let's not let history repeat itself yet once again.

          Ted,

There are many vendors on this board and various questions are asked from time to time that could be answered by vendors saying, "I have that so just call me at _________."

Well, that doesn't happen even though we are competitors but certainly have respect for each other.

Vendors on this board could have answered your question as they have paid for the right to market various products. You were attempting to market something and that would hurt vendors that advertise in the Driveline.

Vendors have paid thousands of dollars and bought stock so they can get a good discount and pass that discount to their customers.

Stop and think about what you were doing! If you had you would not have posted such a request.

          JR

It is Off Topic and an advertisement, it doesn't belong on this board.

              Sorry I've offended you.

So to take it a step further, than all the posts that do not pertain directly to the technical aspects of corvette "restorations" should not be posted. For example I've seen ones about airplane restorations, other car restoration, how to make my pc faster, radial tire recommendations, GM management, the stimulus package, etc.

How about the recent request for recomendations on the conversion of an original tach to an electronic version should that be on here? Once converted it certainly would not meet NCRS judging standards. I guess if there is a strict posting than let's have everyone adhere to it.

On the advertising front, I wasn't trying to "advertise" their product I had simply made a decision to buy one of their covers after researching the covers available and was seeing if anyone else was thinking about buying one and if so we could get a discount. As my father used to say "every tub sits on its own bottom" so I would assume each individual would have researched to determine if this was a cover they wanted for their pride and joy.

                  My question is...
How long does it take for one of the moderators to determine if a thread is "off topic"????
                  Like this one for example.....

JR, By your tone I assume you're a "vendor", correct?

So I assume by your statements then we shouldn't allow anyone to recommend anyone that is not a driveline advertiser correct? For example I should not be able to say XYZ plating did my work and it was great, or go to XYZ vendor and they'll get you a great deal on that date coded correct transmission for your '62, or I bought this product from XYZ vendor and it's better than anything in the maketplace, if XYZ is not a driveline advertiser, correct? Clearly going by your statement these things provide an advantage to a vendor that is not a driveline advertiser.

It depends on if your in the NCRS "illuminati". Some of them seem to stay on the board forever! Go search "off topic" or "airplane" or ? you'll find lots of them.

Personally I believe if we can get clear guidelines on what is allowed and what's not all the better. At that point if they're administered equally to all members then all the better.

                      Just my .02

Am closing this thread because it's not Technical and going nowhere. Most of the Moderators observe the TDB several times a day - not constantly and rely upon the help of the TDB Members to assist with managing the non-Technical threads. TDB Members often send the Moderators e-mail notifications to bring a specific posts to the Moderators attention. Thank you for your patience. Gary....
