    C1 Trunk Lock Escutcheon

    For 1955 car 504:
    When I removed the existing trunk lock, it had an escutcheon that appears to have been chrome plated pot metal. Front and back images of this item are on the right hand side of the attached images.

    The judging manual is not specific on the right part for this.

    When I check with the parts suppliers, they insist that the correct escutcheon is a much thinner, stainless steel escutcheon that is shown on the left side of the attached images.

    Can anyone guide me to what is actually correct? I would think the pot metal piece, because, though it was a basket case, it was relatively unmolested, but I would like to be sure before I put the latching components back together.

    I have never seen anything but the thin stainless piece. Having put several of these in, I don't see how anything thicker would work. Even with the thin piece it is sometimes a bear to get the U shaped lock retainer on.

    I believe this same part was used from 53 through around 60-61. Possibly on some passenger cars too.

      The thicker piece does fit with the spring clamp, but thefit is very tight. It was on the car when I disassembled the lock. However, fiberglass in this area was in very bad shape, including a crack through the lock hole.

      Though as you can see, the pot metal is in poor shape, it does have slots or remnants of slots in all the right places.
