    Bolt color and hood support

Posted these questions once before. Got pictures of a 327/250 back (thank you) but they did not show the bolt head in question or address the hood support.
    Am restoring a 63 327/250 powerglide coupe.
HOOD SUPPORT:Mine is attached at the bottom by two bolts that go through the fender well and are secured with flat, lock washers and nuts. To remove the hood support these nuts would have to be removed from inside the fender well. Is this how the hood support was originally attached?
BOLT HEAD COLOR: The bolt that holds the altenator bracket to the water pump. The water pump is Chev. orange, the bracket is black. Is the bolt head orange, black or natural? I have been unable to find any pictures or descriptions of this bolt.
Your assistance is most apprecitated. Tom

The hood support would be on the RH side and has a backing plate riveted on with built in nuts.

      Hi Tom,
The first thing to get is the 63 AIM (assembly instruction manual) from this site. Ref Section 11-13, sheet B7.00 (that's in 64 AIM - do not have a 63)
For 64 (believe 63 will be same) the Hood Support are held by 2 screws, pn 3797168, which screw into the metal support brace that has a build in nut, so no lock&nut. Also notice the top two screws are pn 9409107, ie different from lower screws (repo's only sell one size for all four)

You may need to remove the bracket and weld some new square nuts on to it.

While you'll looking at support check for the 16077 stamp and "ATWOOD" logo with "Rockford, NJ" under the Atwood stamp on the support - these are judged.

For water pump bolt - believe it was on pump when engine painted so orange, but verify with a 63 guy.

        Tom -

That bolt isn't orange, as it's called out with a part number (#179847 bolt and #120382 split lockwasher) in the Assembly Manual; the engine plant-installed water pump bolt was removed and discarded. Maybe someone else knows whether it was zinc or phosphate.
