Happy New Year! What brand of chassis lub should I use in my 62. I am afraid to get one off of the shelf at a discount parts place. I looked in the corvette service guide but don't see it mentioned by brand or number. I would appreciate your input. Joe

Re: chassis lubricant for 62
Like engine oil, greases are basically generic and formulated to industry wide specifications.
Any NGLI #2 general purpose grease should be up to the task, and most will be lithium based. These are commonly available in national brands like Mobil and Valvoline and brands that you may not have heard of. Just read the label to see what they are, and there is no need to buy a more expensive "synthetic" grease since chassis lub points don't get hot like the steering gear.

Joe, I use off the shelf from O'Rielly's and grease it once a year since I don't put a whole lot of miles on it. Hope to drive it a lot more this coming year. Take your time and get all of them.

Thank you John, I appreciate the input. I don't drive mine alot either but every once in awhile I can't resist. I took it to the Keys today with me eldest son who also loves corvettes. He has a 2008 up at school that his mother and I have donated to his cause. He is going on to grad school next year and is a great kid. He's down for the holidays and wanted to go for a ride with me in the 62. Doesn't get any better. Joe- Top

My recommendation: GM #12377985. It's about 17 bucks a tube, GM list, but this is what I use. You can use it for virtually all chassis applications on a C1, including steering gear and C1 wheel bearings. However, I would not use it for wheel bearings. For that I use GM #1051344 or Valvoline #985.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Thanks Joe: Just caught up with my posts and I appreciate the info. As soon as the weather gets better I am going to grease it up. Today it was 34 degrees and for south florida that means everything comes to a stand still. I guess we are spoiled. Joe- Top
