    63-65 250 HP decal

I'm looking for some info from the 64 and 65 AIM's. In the base engine section, is there a part number/item number shown for the 250 HP decal like the ones that other optional engines use? The optional engine section does show the HP stickers.

    I have a 63 AIM but I don't have my 64 and 65 here.

65 AIM UPC 6 C2 shows the sticker. Hard to read #, but looks to be P/N 3832180.

Michael, as I recall there was no 250hp sticker on the base 63 engine.

Thanks Lyn. Would that 3832180 be for the "327" sticker or for a 250 HP decal?

Yup, correct. Thanks Harry. No 250 HP decal used at least for 63.

#3832180 is called out for both '64 and '65 250hp engines; it's a single sticker. "Chevrolet" on the top line, "327" in the center, and "Turbo-Fire" on the bottom line.

Thanks John. Is the 250 HP decal shown in either manual? That's the one I'm after.

                Michael,
I do not see the 250 HP sticker in the 65 AIM in the base engine section. In the option section for the 300 HP they show it, instead of a "sticker", it is called a "decalcomania". But I do not see it for the base motor in the 65 AIM. Dobbins 63-67 "Vette Vues" fact book shows a 250 HP decal that it states is correct for the 63-65 base engine.

Thanks Lynn. That's what I thought we would find. The Horsepower decal (decalcomania) is not shown in any of the 63-65 AIM's for base engine/250 HP.

Now, on the the 2nd stage of this research project. Does anyone happen to have a 63, 64 or 65 AIM for passenger cars?

Wasn't the Chevrolet Turbo-Fire #3832180 decal an embossed decal and not the flat type sold by most vendors?

I believe in a word, YES. The originals are more of what I would consider a metal tag rather than a "sticker", which is what I believe the reproductions to be.
Also, while looking at Nolands' book earlier today, is see that he shows the 250 HP stickers as being used for 63-65. So were they indeed used, just NOT shown in the AIM drawings for those years??

Lynn, I do not believe they were used. I've seen several 250 hp untoughed cars and have never seen a 250hp sticker. I have a 250 hp car, no evidence of a sticker before I cleaned it up and repained.

                          Harry,

I'm learning more and more by the day about the 250 HP decal. You are correct about the 250 HP decal not being shown in any 63-65 AIM's. (and maybe not 62 either but I don't Have a 62 AIM to comfirm. If someone has one handy, we'd like to know if this decal is listed)

I emailed Vernie Frantz, one of our old friends here from this board and an expert on 62-64 passenger cars. He scaned/sent copies of his 63 and 64 passenger car AIM's and there is no 250 HP decal shown for 63. There is however, a 250 HP decal shown for 64 with a typical 64 numerical value part number that does not conform to those shown for the 62-63 engines. Also, it appears the 250 HP decal was added at some point during the 64 model year instead of "start of production" but that's only for pass car. No such information is shown in the Corvette AIM's.

I'm definitely leaning toward "no 250 HP decal for Corvette for 63-65". Until I see proof that one was used, I'll believe it's likely correct.

                          ---------------------------------------------------

On the "327" sticker, Vernie explained that the 62 and early 63 was indeed an embossed foil type sticker. In mid production 63, the valve cover design changed and the area where the "327" sticker was required a slightly different sticker. The later design sticker was not foil but a mylar sticker without raised characters.

I'm gathering info and I'll scan and post some of it later in the week. In the meantime, I'd like to hear more on this from anyone that has info.

Is this 250 HP decal you guts are talking about the water applied type like on the old model airplanes? I have a pair around somewhere, (the water type) but I can't find them.

I have a fairly unmmessed with 1 owner (+me) '65 250hp. I can not find any evidence of the stickers at all. There were lots of remnants of the larger "327" stickers.

I have seen pictures of them in the books though, but w/o any evidence on my car I'll leave them off.
