Re: dual mass flywheel for C4 corvettes
Thanks to everybody. I am looking at a 96 collector edition ragtop with the 6 speed and it has 20k miles on it. But would not want to buy anything that could not provide replacement parts and I know thats a problem for these C4 cars.- Top

Re: dual mass flywheel for C4 corvettes
I was not aware that GM had discontinued this flywheel but I checked and they, apparently, have done so. This surprises me since GM never manufactured this flywheel. I believe it was manufactured by either LUK or Sachs. So, the fact that GM has discontinued it may imply that the manufacturer has done so, too.
In any event, Jake's suggestion of Rock Auto is the way to go. Let us know when you get one. You'll note that these things are VERY expensive. They were VERY expensive from GM, too. In fact, even more expensive than Rock Auto.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: dual mass flywheel for C4 corvettes
With 20,000 miles I cannot understand why it would even need a flywheel or clutch unless it's been "beat" very hard. It MIGHT need a clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder, though. Those parts are easily available. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: dual mass flywheel for C4 corvettes
Hi Joe, it does not need a clutch, runs smooth, very well taken care of car. I Just was doing my homework for future possibilities. I had called a excellent local Corvette wrench to see what he thought about these 96 models (Steve Cataldo in Topsfield MA) and he told me that they were not available anymore. I suppose the cars are older, but still 13 years is not that far back, but I suppose today you cant take anything for granted.- Top

Re: dual mass flywheel for C4 corvettes
Ray- Last year I paid $1100 for mine at the Chevy dealer, and it was made by Luk. I suspect that Luk is the only manufacturer who makes these. At any rate, it's nice to know that they are still available. BTW-- I wish I had looked at Rock Auto last year, I could have saved a few $$$!- Top
