    Heat riser orientation for BB

There are several pictures in Noland Adams book that underside of 65-67 cars that are all big blocks. The heat riser is in the front and the "arm and weight point toward and perpendicular to the starter. Is this correct?

I have enclosed a picture of a Duntov 65 396 car and my car is situated the same. I am asking because I have seen it different on other original cars.

    Keith,

My original 396/425 car has the heat riser oriented with the "weighted end" pointing at the heater core and you can see the "weighted end" near the exhaust manifold in the picture.

I vote weight pointing horizontally towards front starter end cover (engine cold). Mine's like that (which proves nothing ), but look at Noland's Vol. 2, page 259; a new 396 underside, shot from the front, shows this orientation.

Also shows black "stuff" runs on the front sway bar, but that's being discussed in another thread .

        Which document to follow?

Noland's book & picture shows the counterbalance horizontal across the front as Wayne and Keith mentioned.

Judging guide says counterweight points toward the front of the car on big blocks.

Page 313 of the assembly manual (UPC L78) shows the counterbalance toward the rear of the engine............
