before/after shots of the engine bay of my 68 (pics inside)

Def. wouldn't want to run out and get it judged or nothing but for a nice quality end driver I think it's looking nice. I haven't put the correct spark plug wires on yet and I just had the shielding setting on top of the wires but you get the idea from what it was and what shape it's in now.

here are of a few pics of the engine in it's original state and what it ended up like after we pulled it gave it a fresh valve job, clutch etcetc. Had been rebuilt lower end and bored .30 over not long before I bought it back 5 years ago so all that was good to go.

wanting to actually post this so you guys can catch some well probably A LOT of my mistakes about being correct. I had the original chrome pieces triple plated I know that isn't correct but like I said it's a driver while trying to be as correct as possible when I work on it. First thing is mine is a early enough 68 to have the emission sticker on the radiator instead of the firewall, does it look like I have that decal in the correct place on the left side of the radiator? From what I read it sounded like it went there.

btw these were taken in my basement with limited lighting and the flash on high so..

    before...

    after......
    ......
    ......

valve covers still not redone here

    chrome re-done

Brandon, thats quite a nice job you've done, before and after pic.s really show the effort that you put into it. By the way the wiper accuator canister, I did that to mine ,it cleaned up nicely,I don't know if you clear coated it,but that will help the rust from coming back.

Looks great but you should have painted the exhaust manifolds as well. Seems so many people don't do this simple task. Good luck with the judging and once again great job.

Nice transformation. I also own a 68 390 horse and love to drive it. Great low end torque. Enjoy it.

They're painted look again at the pictures and I don't think I want to put it in for judgement, I'd like to get into that but I kinda doubt it's up to par right now. Which is why I'll post pictures here and there somtimes, people have helped point out what to change and get correct before I put the engine back in.

the picture of the engine hanging and looking ready to go back in people caught a few changes that needed made there that was nice to correct them before putting it back in.

If I had a correct distributor, smog pump setup, and a correct alternator I would possibly have it judged because everything else is correct but until I want to spend over 1,000 on a dizzy alone she's a driver

Yeah, I didn't know much else I could do with it. I started to buy a new one but was afraid if I ever did have it judged they might deduct points for it not being an original piece. So, thats why I just cleaned mine up but in my pics now you can tell it doesn't look as good at it did when I first cleaned it up.

Brandon, get her judged anyway. The folks you meet and the wisdom you learn is what makes this hobby what it is. It truly is a lot of fun at a NCRS meet.

Brandon, nice job. How hard was it to pull the motor?

Thanks guys I appreciate the nice comments. I put my master cylinder decal on I don't think he really is a certain location just on the rear bail on most cars placement look ok?

also I just kinda looked at others with the valve cover decal here placement ok lookin for judiging if it ever gets judged that is? btw whats with that decal kinda looks like an aftermarket type deal but they came new with them?

lets rewind it for a min! ok question on the hood support finish, see how it has the old dirty finish look to it whats the best thing to do? throw it in my media cabinet and bead blast it? what finish does it support to be just natural right? thinking of just bead blasting it any advice? Also those are the original vacuum hoses and I ordered a new kit from paragon but they were too thick in diameter for my liking so I sent them back and ordered a kit from Dr. rebuild which matched up perfect looks wise..thing is I held off on putting them in because I wasn't sure if it would be best judging wise to leave the original or put the new ones on, any advice? would you lose point on that or no? would rather have the new ones in looks wise ofcourse.

I assume "dizzy" is your slang for a distributor?

                            Why $1000?
Is it supposed to be a TI car?

Nope, not a TI car but ones I've seen that would work and are the correct model number have been priced way up there.

you know of anywhere they might have them a lot cheaper? I haven't had luck on ebay or swap meets. It has an accel in it right now.

I bought an original repro ac delco cap for it which looks awesome and went to put it on my acel and you probably know already it won't fit it...think I paid like 70 bucks for that cap too..can't remember but it was high for a cap!
