    welded motor mounts

I'm doing a body off on a '61 and came upon the following: The driver's side welded on motor mounts (top and bottom) are both flush with the frame rails so that the bolt on Mount Bracket fits tight to the frame rail.On the passenger side the top mount is welded 1/4" to 3/8" inside the rail so the bolt on Mount Bracket does not fit tight to the frame. There is a gap at the top. When I bolt up the Mount Brackets and the Cross Brace the whole assembly is slightly skewed and the cross brace is a couple degrees off level. My question. Could it have come from the factory this way? It looks like the origional factory welds on the mount but I can't tell for sure. I do not know the car's history but it does have an aftermarket front fiberglass clip from the windshield forward so I assume some damage was done at some point. The frame is fine and is not twisted or tweaked. Thanks

    Re: welded motor mounts

never seen a c-1 where the welded brackets disallow the mount to not bolt up flush with the frame. grind the bracket off the frame and re-weld, especially if you plan on having the c-1 judged. mike
