    C1, C2 & C3 Upper Control Arm Bumper Madness

    Hi Everybody,

I've got two different upper control arm bumpers (stops) in hand, yet the AIM calls out one part number, 3742247.

Paragon 701 is 1.5" tall and 1.5" in diameter at the base

Paragon 1342 is 1.5" tall and 1.82" in diameter at the base

What I'm trying to distinguish is which of these bumpers is indeed part number 3742247. Just to thow a wrench in things, I have found yet another part number, 384220, which is supposedly the same item.

Paragon is saying that the 701 is used for 53-62 and 76-82, yet the 1342 is used for 63-75.

This directly contradicts the AIMs which call out the same part number, 3742247, for all cars 63-82.

Can anyone shed any light on this subject? I've searched all through the previous posts and cannot find an answer. I'm just trying to find out which part number, either the 701 or the 1342, is actually the correct version of GM 3742247.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance,

    Carl French

Carlton, here's what the 61 P&A says for C1 part number 3742247. No listing for 384220 in C1 P&A's. Group 6.176 Bumper Steering Knuckle Support Arm, part no. 3742247 application is 58-61 passenger car upper. No listing in the P&A's for any 53-62 Corvette application. Gary....
    Correction:
    3708834 53-61 upper
    3661888 53-61 lower

      Carl,
My experience the wider base style is original. The other may just be the suppliers version of a replacement.

        Carlton,
My GM Corvette parts book 53-82 (effective March 83) calls it out this way:
        P/N-384220 GR 6.176 as 63-75 Upper Bumper (Paragon 1342)
        P/N-3742247 GR 6.176 as 76-82 Upper Bumper (Paragon 701)
This is how I believe them to be. I did not look at the AIM call out designations.

Just to make things clearer (???) here is Gr. 6.176 from a P&A dated 12-71
          Hope its not a 63!

            Alan,
Your page shows the 3742247 as being correct for 63-72 for the upper bumper. I am curious exactly what the 3722380 upper rubber piece is?? Maybe someone else could shine some light on that one, as it appears to be a 63 only item. Possibly Joe L, if he sees this thread.
