Re: How many feel the same

I have my choice of numerous vettes. A nothing makes me feel like driving my 54. The powerglide seems to weep a little fluid if its not driven every few days so I am diligent about driving it. Wrenching and restoring is great but sharing and driving -as my kids call it - the oldest man is what its all about for me.

The solution is simple, don't restore it. Just fix the stuff that needs fixing to make it a reliable car.

I am fixing up my 56 as a rat rod. I have a sign that I put on the dash when I park it somewhere. It says:

"The answers to the three most often asked questions are:

      1. It is a 1956.
      2. No, I am not going to paint it.
      3. No, it is not for sale."

I am going to put some primer on it to protect the fiberglass and also appease my wife. She said she ain't riding in it until it is all one color.

        Ed,
Congratulations on the Rat Rod. Got any pictures?

I did a 62 Rat Rod a few years ago and had a ball with it.
Put about 2000 miles on it one summer, drove it everywhere.

The most asked questions I got were:

        1. What color are you painting it? Well I paid $150 for all the pinstriping so , no paint.
        2. Are the springs broken? Lowered 2" all around.
        3. What kind of car is it? Duh...
        4. What happened to the seats? Period correct diamond pattern Naugahide uhpolstery, see picture of sticker.
        5. Is that the original shifter? No answer, but a lot of laughs.

Neat old car. It got more attention then my good Corvettes.

        DRIVE UM.

I drive (not trailer) my '63 to about 10 car shows per year. I'll probably never have it flight judged. It is getting scary because I know what it is worth.

The big shows have quite a few C1 & C2 vettes attend around here and their owners drive them too.

Like any car 50+ years old, you're not going to see many of them. That's why I enjoy going to these large shows. It's sad but a fact of life.

I would buy anyone a beer and BS about Corvettes or any car
I think many of us come here to get our "sanity" (or insanity) fix for the day, posts like this adds the spice to it!! Like they say, it doesn't get any better than this!!

Here is a pic of my 56 rat rod. I have since installed the hood, grill, grill oval, headlights, and turn signals. The grill oval is broken, and held together by three pieces of A/C duct tape.
