'65 gas tank hose clips

    '65 gas tank hose clips

    Can anyone tell me if it's safe to use the original clamps for the fuel hose that fits just outside the tank. I do have good experiance using these on my cooling system but I'am a littlebit fearful to use these on my fuelline.
    Does anyone know if I can use them safe?????

    Twan -- depends on whether your fuel hose is the original and is reduced slightly in diameter where the original clamps have resided over 40+ years. I think you could use the original clamps with NEW hose, without problems. JMO, though. Here's a previous post on the clamps themselves, with several pictures.

      Since you're replacing the tank, replace the piece of 3/8" fuel hose too from the tank to the line on the frame, and the green spring clamps will work fine; those connections are sealing vacuum, not pressure.

        John -- if I remember my hydraulics, yes, those lines near the rear frame may be under vacuum (depending) where -- like on the kick-up and further to the rear, the fuel level in the tank, and the rate of flow/consumption. Of course, on the discharge side of the fuel pump, weak clamps or non-flexible /aged hose could be the problem spots.

        After hot engine shutdown, heat soak in the engine compartment will tend to push a bit of fuel backwards towards the tank (if the pump diaphragm will allow bleedback).

        But with a cold car (ie. parked overnight), Twan is more likely to see weeping/dripping from the rear fuel line clamps than during operation; again, worse with a full tank.
