1967 Door, can feel A-pillar Rivets - Should they be Sanded Smooth or Not?

There are at least five (5) rivets in the A-pillar of the door. They are clearly visible from the inside-side of the door, but they are also visible on the outside-side of the door when all the paint is removed.

Some of these rivets can be felt as very slightly raised bumps when you run your fingertips over them, sort of like an inverted "dimple". Others are completely flush with the door surface and cannot be felt at all.

Question: Should all of the rivets be sanded smooth so that they cannot be felt, or should the odd few that are not quite flush with the door surface be left "as is"?

    Thanks,

    Scott

They should look like a normal rivet and are painted the color of the body. It sounds like someone has sanded them. Paragon has the replacements

      Hi William,

I think I should have been more clear. The rivets do look normal and are certainly feelable on the inside of the door. I'm pretty sure that's normal and the way it's supposed to be.

What I'm not sure about is the outside of the door, the part where you would normally wax and shine as part of the car's outwardly visible exterior. Are you saying that you should be able to see and/or feel rivets through the paint, down the exterior side of the door A-pillar?

        Scott -

Nope. There were no rivets on/in/through the outer door skin surface from St. Louis; you may be looking at some sort of previous owner repair for a delaminated door skin.

Sorry, I agree with John. Probably a repair and should be repaired properly this time.

            Thanks John and William,

I think I understand now, and will try to post a couple pictures for confirmation, as soon as I find (or re-take) them.

              Scott,
I thought you we talking about the 5 rivets that hold the dash in place.
Hard to tell what some one has done, but that sure isn't the proper fix.
Not being a body man I would think they need to be removed and repaired properly.
