55 Splash Shieds

I need a set of splash shields for my early 55. While looking at the 55 shields at Corvette Central I noticed that they are different from the 54's.

? is did they change over at the start of 55 production or like so many other parts on the car, later in the production run...I need some made prior to 1-8-55 .Thanks Bob

Good question and I don't have that answer but would think they were changed in 55 because of the right side 12V battery causing the inner fender to change also.

the DRIVERS side splash shield is unique to the 53-55 models in that they have a rolled "gusset" that runs front to rear on the outside edge of the splash shield.gary moritmer, who repos the 56-62 splash shields, hasn't ever made any for the 53-55 because of the rolled area i mentioned above. the Pass side on our 55 v8 splash sield was easy to repo as there are no rolled areas.it is very close, if not identical to the 56-7 shields. i made a new one for the pass side on our 55 and repaired the original drivers side to retain the rolled gusset. i believe there is still a template for the pass side laying in the shop somewhere . you can have it . if you have a sheet metal brake or access to one, repoping the pass side is a snap. mike

Roy, Mike: Thank you so much for your help. I'll just buy the 55 set from Corvette Central and keep an eye out for an original set. I've seen a few go bye on Ebay.......... Thanks again Bob
