Re: most hateful c-1 resto chore

Hmmm, I'm thinking of the job I've done about 5 times in the last 25 years on my 59...........

Removing and re-installing that dog-gone instrument cluster to get at the speedo or tach. OMG I hate that job! No matter how many pillows or cushions or back and neck saving aids I come up with it's never easy. Keeping a light in place to see what you're doing is a trick in itself.

    Rich
p.s. Having pinched nerves in my neck 2 years ago made that job, which was about 8 hours, a definite PITA.(or should I say PITN). After I finished replacing the speedo needle, I had to do it all over again because I goofed up the speedo reassembly!

troy: 3M caulking strips--afix a dab of the caulk to the flat washer and a dab of caulk to the 5/16 nut. get a 1/4" drive swivel socket and a 12" long 1/4" extension, good lighting, lay on yer back on the floor pan with seat bottom removed, put a warm six pak in the fridge. once you have all four nuts threaded and tightened, the beer will be plenty cold enough to consume. good luck, mike

Well as far as I am concerned ALL C-1 are a hateful beast. Did one 58 and that cured me of that itch! The old gal was a hateful bitch and bled me every chance. Divorce was the only cure!

Thanks Mike. Just think all the Christmas presents are wrapped and I neglected to ask for more 1/4" drive parts.

I was hoping to find a sidewinder socket handle that you could get back in there and then just twist the handle to tighten the nuts. My sidewinder is too big.

Give a "Merry Christmas" greeting to Bill Z. if you see him, assuming the snow plow has made it to your farm yet.

Yep I went through his site the other day and found he has spent good time on the solid axle stuff with very good photos. He has good mechanical knowledge I wish there were more of this around. A section on the forum with lots of this would be good time well spent. Stewy
