    Re: '65 FI S-Tube Clamp

Thanks Michael, just remembered a good picture in Noland's book on page 229, it clearly shows the bolt in a bright zinc, not painted black. These are supposed to be new at St. Louis 64s so I guess they're correct. The gloss on the 'S' tube and air cleaners is very close to the cannister though?

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!

While we're on this subject, does anyone know if the '63 air cleaner decal is being made anywhere today with font style and size like the one shown in Nolan's book? Thanks,

      Mike

The S tube does look glossy in that pic but that was likely taken after the car was sent to Michigan for photos. Everything under the hood would have been "cleaned up" a bit. Look at how glossy the PB vacuum hose and air cleaner hose are.

Look at the pic on page 289 in the Adams book.

Krughoff had an NOS air cleaner and S tube decades ago. The gloss level was definitely quite different between the two. Also, some of the ultra low mileage cars that I've seen years ago showed exactly the same difference in gloss level on the two parts.

You can even see a difference in the coloe. The main part of the air cleaner is very black while the S tube has a very slight lean toward grey.

I doubt 63-65 restorers/owners will ever go along with the semi flat/gloss S tube though because shinny looks a lot prettier.

Hi Mike, I purchased 7 decals from all the FI vendors and large parts vendors and NONE of them had all correct fonts etc. From the top instruction line being to long, to the text lines not on the same lines as known originals, they all had problems. The closest one I found was on page 137 pf Nolands C2 book, this is a reproduction from Chicago Corvette Supply from which I obtained a couple last year from them. The 'circle' is too thick and some of the bottom lettering isn't aligned correctly. What I did was to 'cut and paste' the most correct lettering from the 7 decals and scan them onto photo/sticky sided one side paper.
