Another Rare NOS Item up for Auction

Every few years around the holidays I force myself to get into the season by doing something silly. Well this time I think I outdid myself. A bit of a mockery of NOS pricing and of some of the ways I see things around the hobby.

I think some of you may get a chuckle out of it, and of course no disrespect intended of our great organization...... just having a little Holiday Fun.

Very cool! I'll wait to bid to see how the $$$ go. I'm really waiting for some more NOS air. Did you ever come across some more? I lost 10 points in Texas for having air in my tires that wasn't the same as the original. However, I did get 3 points back because it was teh same color.

I would bid but I have a 64. I will wait until a correct one shows up.

shame you don't ship overseas; I am pretty sure that people on this side of the pond are willing to spend big $$$ on this

A few weeks ago, I purchased some 40+ year old NOS air on eBay and then foolishly unzipped the string on the box and let it all out!! Of course, I had to get to that NOS part inside. When I took the lid off the box, I did get a whiff of the aroma inside. Thought for a second I was in King Tut's tomb.

Patrick, I think I have solved that problem, losing the NOS air or vacuum; Put the container in a zip lock bag and assure it is air tight. If not, put another zip lock on top of it and seal it. Repeat until you are certain it is air tight then gently open the container by working the container open through the bag(s) and you have your part AND NOS air or vacuum! I am working on a way now to remov ethe part and maintain the air or vacuum in the container.

A WARNING---There is reportedly a person out there advertising and selling NOS vacuum. IT IS NOT NOS, but rather he has one of these vacuum food storage bag machines from Wal Mart and is "reproducing" the vacuum. It is easy to tell the difference as the NOS vacuum has a musty smell and the Wal Mart vacuum has a, well you know---

              Interesting...........
Finally just got home from Christmas shopping. See I told you the silly ad would get me in the spirit. It is a Zoo out there though!

              Jim
, I lost the nos 62 air due to a silly mistake when I dropped it. Haven't seen any since. You should have super glued your valve caps on so they wouldn't be able to check it.

Erik, I revised the listing welcoming overseas bidders. Take a look again.

Willard, It'll work in a '64 just fine. You have a 327 small block and the specs are the same.

Patrick, Unlike nos air, nos vacuum is odorless. Lack of aroma will stump the judges, but they may have the measurement technology now to prove it otherwise.
If it doesn't sell at auction I'm planning to take it to Kissimmee and market it in the vendor area.

Steven, Don't give up your day job, okay? BTW, it is definitely nos......just look at the pictures!

              Merry Almost Christmas,
              Rich

I made the mistake of storing my original air next to my original vacuum. They eventually cancelled each other out. Now I have nothing.

                  Love the ad!

And to think I have been wasting my time all these years scraping and collecting NOS grease from old cars. Forgot all about the Vacumn...darn.

After I read the part of the ad, about: "I think a little pee came out."

I had to go and change my Pampers.

I am happy () to see Rich is answering questions posed to him on ebay. Although I got what I believe to be a correct answer I must pass due to the need for late (Nov-early Dec) 1956 vacuum. Maybe there is some in Mom's old Hoover

Question & AnswerAnswered OnQ: Would you consider an offer of $(-20.00) for this vaccuum? I would like to put it on my wall of other usless items, plus I could use the money. Merry Christmas. Please keep these rare but appreciated offers comming. GaryDec-22-09A: Wow, That's really a generous offer but I think I'll pass(???). Besides, there's no Buy-It-Now. (I wonder how Paypal would handle that transaction)? Useless? It isn't useless. It's very rare. Really, when was the last time you saw this kind of thing. You can save it away for the future. You're gonna wish you had this in a few years when prices go even more sky high as they have been for NOS pieces. Imagine, $130 for a C2 air cleaner wingnut! And don't forget those C1 1x4 air cleaners. One recently went for nearly 4 thousand bucks! Is there no end to this madness? Happy Holidays......RichQ: richmz, what VIN is the NOS vacuum from? Is it 1958 vac for an early 1959 Corvette or is it Jan. 1, 1959 or later for a mid to late 1959? I have a very, very late (last day of production)1958 so a first day of production or near that time will work for me. Thank You! Dec-22-09A: Excellent question! I was so excited that day I forgot to check the vin tag. I couldn't open the drivers door as there was so much stuff piled around the car. I did notice however that it had several "early" features(59E for those in the know). Also, I recall the engine assembly stamp was dated F0I0ICU,(Flint,Jan01,2x4/man-trans) which would have had the rest of the car built shortly after January 1st, 1959.(Hmmmm, I didn''t know they worked on Holidays back then? This engine may have been hungover a little bit!) .......Therefore, since you get around a 6 month window for dated items, this vacuum would be correct for a late fifty eight. Good Luck Bidding! Merry C & Happy H......Q: will this vacuum work on a 72 corvette? Dec-21-09A: Hmmmm, Big Block or Small Block? It came out of a small block and would probably be ok in a 350 cubic inch powerplant. I'd say it may work ok in a BB, but I must admit it may not have the similar effect on performance expected on those hi performance engines of the era. It was really designed to be used with 1959 technology.:-) Happy Holidays.....RichQ: great pics? im sure you will have no problem selling your item with those pictures!good luck!Dec-21-09A: Thanks!!!! I used some special settings on my camera to get just the right hue and color balance. I tried using the macro setting but it was a bit blurry. Took quite a while to get just what I wanted. Hopefully the correct detail is evident for accuracy! Nothing worse than someone selling a very rare item and not having good quality photos to describe it. And having all 3 views is important. How many times do you see a rare item, and the guy has just one lousy picture! Can't afford to spend 15 cents each for a few good detail shots. Yikes, I hate that! Happy Holidays!Q: Boy did you hit it on the head with the way people sell on E-Bay. Ask them a question and they give you an answer to a differet question. Some people who sell on E-Bay do not have a conscience!! I just boght two parking lights from a guy that said the were in VERY good condition. I opened the box and couldnt believe there is someone stupid enough to sell total garbage. Do you think E-Bay will help??? Good luck, not a chance. I tossed them in the garbage and sent the seller a message that Santa will be giving him coal in his stocking this year.. Merry Christmas!!!! Dave Dec-18-09A: Dave, I feel your pain. I've bought many times and have been in the same situation. Once I bought this described "nice" SS door trim for a 58-62 Corvette, opened the box and a big scratch in it! Of course the photo didn't show it! He never showed the BAD side! Paid $60 a year ago, gave it away 2 weeks ago here for about $25. But at least I said it had the scratch and can sleep at night. Live and learn! Oh, yea. There's the other side of the coin too. Recently I sold something advertised as "damaged" , the photos showed it was like stored in a barn for 20 years, and got feedback that it was "dirty"! Sheesh! And just today that a brand new in the box set of tar coated corvette sound deadener had "scratches" on some of the pieces. Yikes! I guess the guy isn't going to put carpeting over it! Happy Holidays.....Rich

Boy, the formatting didn't come over right---

Phew, another day and night of Christmas shopping. I thought yesterday was bad. I was heading south on Old Dixie Highway in Vero Beach today and some guy in a Mercedes AMG two seater crossed the center line heading right for me. I didn't even have time to hit the horn. I cut right to avoid him nearly hitting a phone pole, got back straight & when I looked in the rearview mirror he was gone! He must've been in a real hurry to get into that strip mall. Sheeesh, It scared the beejeezees(sp?) out of me. Good thing I left the C6 home and was driving the wife's car! For some reason things are really crazy out there this week.

                            Sorry....back to reality!

Michael, That's documented in the Service Manual. You should have known that. Everybody knows that!

Todd, I have boxes and boxes of nos grease but nobody ever wanted it. If it has microscopic amounts of dirt in it it's just not usable.

Joe, Sorry I made you do that. It was kinda funny though wasn't it?

Jeremy, "spare light"...That's a good one. You've given me an idea for next Christmas.

Stephen, I Agree......Way too much, but it's only once a year.

Steven, Thanks, glad it helped.......Let's see, a 56....Hmmmm, maybe you could get it 're-dated'.
