    53 to 55 Headlight screens

I friend ordered from three different supplier's headlight screens and they all come out flat looking having no bulge or come form to the body line as mine are seen here that are original . What's up with these guys that repro parts that are usually a poor fit that I see so many times.

Then again why are so many highly restored 53-55 have such poor fitting seats where the soft top lid meets the cushions. May be I expect to much!!

Roy, I don't expect the screens to be pre-bent. I bend them over a football to get them to fit the bezels perfectly and to have the curvature to match the body. Not a big deal.

i think it was ken frenchak(pittsburgh area) who repo'd the screens with correct convexity back in the 1970's. the ones i got from ken needed no modifications when i restored our 54 in the early 80's. mike

I can understand shipping them flat. The only thing that gets me is how darn expensive they are for what you get. That screen must only cost about $1/sf to make and maybe another $1 to cut.

No what I mean is that the newer ones seem to be made to short that my friend has so that you cant get them to look correct

I ended up buying a good used screen to replace a flat repro I had, the repro was too short if you tried to bend it to match the curve of the fender... I found the stock in 4' x 8' sheets, but it was spendy to make just one for my car.

Roy, my seats are not correct, but they do fit the deck lid area, they are too narrow and don't fill the gap to the filler panel... Maybe one day I'll get the correct seats, but they work just fine for my "driver"

Probably repro or the frames are bent or the stuffing is wrong. If there original frame I would guess the stuffing. Original inner cushion was (rubber) using no cotton.
