    1956 Corvette Plant Closures

Does anyone have any info about possible plant closures during the months of November and December of 1956 for Corvette production? I haven't heard that there were any, but wanted to check to see if anyone had any info.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Mark -

I don't show any interruptions during that period in my notes.

      Mark,

From memory, and not going into any reference information I may have on '56 Corvette production. I recall the'56 Corvette production ended somewhere around the second week in September and the start up of '57 Corvette segued into late Sept and continued into '57. St. Louis did not close down the Corvette line. Regards, Jim Frakes

My 56 is 104th car from the end of 56 production. It was built on Sept 7, and by extrapolation, it would have gone out the back door before noon.
        FIRST car Sep 7---- E56S004360
        LAST car Sep 7-----E56S004378

These daily production numbers were obtained by me personally from Jack Knudsen at the 1981 NCRS Natls in St. Louis.

          Tom,

So, back then it was only 18 cars a day? My car is #4399 and I have long believed that it was a September 7 car based on the birday book calculations. From your information, it looks like it would be closer to September 10th or 11th? Any other thoughts out there?

The best published source I know of for work stopage information is Birthplace of Legonds by Pete LeCastro. Of course John's notes may be superior.
