My buddy is doing a 63 roadster (hotrodding it) and needs a rear spring are the repo steel 9 leafs any good, do they need different bolt lengths both inner and outer?, the spring thats on it now looks like a bairs 9 leaf that someone added an xtra leaf that should be on a one ton truck, about 3/8" thick , i guess we could remove the truck leaf and blast and add new liners, but that is almost the price of a new one, any suggestions would be appeciated......jim

Re: Repo rear 9 leaf spring
If your friend is hotrodding the car, my opinion is the repro is the only way to go. They will work fine. I get a really nice one right here in the Detroit area direct from Eaton, that will probably be superior for that application than an original.

Re: Repo rear 9 leaf spring
I actually get them through a friend with a shop so as to get the best price I can, so I do not have it immeadiately available. I will get you some info by tomorrow morning, and send you a PM.

Re: Repo rear 9 leaf spring
There are very few midyear owners who have converted to the composite rear spring who aren't complaining about the "bouncy-bouncy" syndrome that comes with it; that spring has no interleaf friction to help calm it down, and requires a very high level of rebound damping in the rear shocks to control it. From the comments I see daily on the forums, nobody has a rear shock with adequate rebound damping that doesn't make the car ride like a buckboard. The ones with the VBP springs seem to complain the loudest.- Top

Re: Repo rear 9 leaf spring
Now I used one from Vette Products, installed in or around 72. Granted did not drive much, but run 1/4 stuff a fair amount. Do not recall any problems however its an early design - the newer ones who knows.- Top
