    C4 rear hatch assist rod metal clip

    I have a 1996 Corvette Grand Sport. When replacing the rubber bumper on the rear hatch assist rod, I lost the metal retainer clip that goes on the end of the rod.

    I tried to search for the part and it seems like you have to purchase an entire rod assembly to get the clip.

    Anyone know where I can purchase just the metal clip?

    You might try Contemporary Corvette and talk to Chris. I've had good luck getting small C4 parts from them. You might have to buy a used strut, but that would be a lot cheaper than new.

      I can't find that GM ever serviced the clip as a separate part. As has been described, a used rod would be a source of a donor clip. Another option would be to go to a local auto parts store and look through their stock of gas struts. They usually have these displayed on a hanging rack. Find the cheapest one that has the clip you need and buy it. These clips were used on many different gas struts.

      Also, if the struts in your car are original to it, I find it amazing that they would remain fully functional. Usually, these things just do not last 14 years. Does the hatch pop-up like it's supposed to? If not, you might just want to purchase new struts for it. Then, you get the clips with them, too. Will the "printing" on the new struts differ from the originals even if you get GM pieces? Yes, but the struts will work properly. For awhile, anyway.

          Awesome! All I need is one. It's the metal c-clip that goes to the end of the rear hatch assist rod. It clamps down to hold it on the ball nut.

          Thanks so much! I will gladly pay for the clip and shipping. Just let me know how to get the money to you.

            Problem resolved. I found the clip on the passenger side carpet. I took the car out for a drive yesterday and must have G'd it up enough to get the clip to lay itself right in the middle of the carpet where I could find it LOL!

            Thank you for all of your helpful posts!

              Brian;

              Good going. I also found the magnet rod I suggested you use to probe for it.

              I think it's time to update your Avitar to show your G.S..

              Good luck on your flight to JFK today. Hurry back to sunny Florida, and we'll look forward to the family GTG tomorrow.
