    Engine Pad preservation/rust removal

I have an engine pad that had some rust on it. Nothing deep, just some rust formation on the pad. Any suggestions or advice on how to safely safely remove the rust or neutralize the rust without disturbing or in any negative way affecting the broach marks?
Also, once I neutralize the rust, what is best to put on the pad to prevent any further rust from forming. I live in Florida where the humidity and heat are killers. I am in the process of doing my homework on putting AC in the garage, but regardless I want to preserve this gorgeous engine pad. Any thoughts, ideas, advice, comments or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I have heard of putting petroleum jelly on it, engine oil on it, etc and I want to do the RIGHT thing the first time. I believe it is the original stamp and do not want to disturb any broach marks/it's original condition. Thanks in advance. Happy Holidays to ALL........ARA

I haven't seen yours, but if it were mine, I would just some apply some sort of light oil to it.

I had the same issue and one of the members on this forum suggested Naval Jelly. I worked terrific. I highly recommend it. By the way I won Top Flight soon after that.

          Ara,

there are 2 different products that are new. One is Safest Rust Remover and the second which is a knock off of the first is supplied by Eastwood. If you do a search on either they will come up. They do not affect the metal just rust. No acids at all.

I have used Os-Pho to clean metal surfaces and prevent rust, such as on spindles, tie rods, drive shafts, etc. I assume it contains some percentage of phosphoric acid, which I have read does not harm metal. I then spray with CRC SP-400 to preserve the surface. It looks kinda yellowish and is a bit sticky though, at least for a while. The good thing about SP-400 is that it can always be removed with most any solvent.

Once it is clean, I use "Corrosion X" http://www.corrosionx.com/marine.html which is a product that is sprayed inside airplane wings and fuselages. I apply it with a brush. I think it can be bought in small quantities. I brush it on. My friendly airplane shop gave me a bottle which should out live me. I actually use it on anything I want to preserve. It works well on battery terminals too.

I use safest rust remover all the time. It works like a champ. Biodegradable, not acid based, and truly a solution you must have in the shop.
