    Re: Delco battery problems??

I have had two in my Yukon that leaked. The first one had done a great deal of damage before it was found. The replacement began leaking in about a year but was found during an oil change. Both were the 7-yr. ones and were replaced free of charge. The last one has been in it over five years. (fingers crossed also)

As Joe said Delco is not the same company, they out source just about everything, they just put the Delco name on most everything,Ive had my own Automotive shop for 20 yrs. and have been a loyal fan for along while, until about the 2 1/2 yrs. noted problems with there reman. starters and alternators, then batterys starting being a issue, so I decided to drop there line , most of the parts are re-boxed and made all over the world, with that said you can go to a Napa store,Pep boys and buy the same old crap.

Being around cars most of my life I am finding it more difficult to buy a quality part to repair cars, dealers are about the only way to go these days. thats not of much use to us with older cars.

If you live in, or near, a larger metropolitin area, there is most likely a mom and pop type starter-gen-alt shop which can rebuild (with quality) most any kind and any brand.
Over the years, I have learned to rebuild my own. Only on rare ocassions when something stumps me do I take a starter or alternator to my local shop. It's been MANY years since I bought or exchanged a starter or alt.

Tom, Ive got a small but busy shop, the boxed route is the way for me to go ,besides most cars I work on are are of the higher mileage, when I do get a later model car I do have a local rebuilder do his thing. Years ago I did rebuild most of my alternators and starters, but with the rapidly changing automotive world is just not possiable. so many makes and models out there.and everyone needs there cars today.

I have my Delco battery in the Vette since 1998 now (the one before - Delco too - was in the car when I bought it in 1992). No trouble since whatsowever...

I don't drive that much, but try to keep driving no short distances (German standards - so no less than 25 mls) every time after starting up.

I do not know who manufactures the new Delco's but they are junk for sure.I would think GM would want to correct this issue for appearance sake. My dad has a Toyota Tacoma he bought new in 98 and just replaced the battery about a year ago.It was a Delco in the Toyota. So I think the quality issue is fairly new. But it sure has nailed my family!
