    Dist points plate Trivia C1

    Many of those old point Dist plates are worm or rusted and the vacuum advance may have a hard time working smooth so I thought I would mention replacing it with a after market Dyna-flyte that comes in a single point to dual points. You can now and then find them on e-bay . The plate turns and rides on many small ball bearings. So if you cant find the NOS set these are great that I use just because it works so smooth .55 up!

    Roy;

    Just to add that these plates are also were available for the later model C-2 and C-3 cars as well (window distributors). I have been using one in mine for many years and I love it. I experienced plate tip on both C-1 and C-2 distributors using points in the past when that center bushing got worn, and it can cause all kinds of hard to diagnose problems from sluggish vacuum advance, unwanted variable dwell, to down right lock up in full or no advance positions! Let your imaginations get the picture. The Dyna Flyte plate ball bearing circle is a large diameter and it practically eliminates any plate tip potential, and the movement through the entire travel is very positive. I did have to modify mine a little to accept the Pertronix electronic module when I added that a number of years back, and also a little before that with my former Prestolite hall effect piece that I used many years ago. The plate is fashioned with just the right position pin and screw taps for the standard points and condensor, so if you do modify it as I did, make certain you seal off any openings to the ball bearing. They are very small and compact and you would not want to contaminate that area. Also, be careful what lubricant and how much you use in the bearing - guess that goes with out saying.

    Yes, I hardily endorse their use - if you can find one. They are specially worthwhile in dealing with some of the poor quality VAC's available now days that have twisted or binding links, either of which can bring on premature plate bushing wear and eventual tipping. The Dyna Flyte will not tip or hang up, so if you have a Vacuum advance problem, you can bet the fault lies with the VAC.
